If you were alone for one month and could only bring one book, one movie, and one piece of music, what would you bring?
If I were alone I would re-read Charles Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities. There are so many interesting extended metaphors and historical connections to the French Revolution that I know I would discover something new with each reading. For the movie I think I would pick the original Star Wars movie; this modern epic with interesting action and lots of diverse characters would be great company. Finally, for music, I think I would pick "Shout" so I could dance in my solitude and get lots of exercise throwing my arms up in the air!
If you could invite any three people, from any place or time, to dinner, whom would you invite?
I would invite Shakespeare, Edgar Allen Poe and Art Spiegelman. I think they would lead an incredible conversation about the changing nature of people and ways to express it in plays, poems, stories, and images.
What's the best thing you do that almost no one knows about?
I make a mean curry!
What makes WUHSMS a special place?
Our students are amazing, unique individuals whom I continue to learn from (at least as much as they learn from me) on a daily basis.
