pn orientationThe 2017-18 school year started with the first Woodstock Union High School and Middle School all school orientation program. The day included whole school activities and break out activities specific to each grade level. Together students and staff shared in a feeling of pride for our school community and in building excitement for the year ahead of us. It was the strongest first day of school in my time at WUHSMS.

The energy of the first day continued throughout the first week of school. Students at WUHSMS were engaged in classroom experiences that had them:

  • Solving mysteries - Evaluating bias and assumptions

  • Considering what they find valuable in life - Struggling with what constitutes knowledge

  • Announcing "I don't know what to do" and then leveraging the skills of teachers and peers for help

  • Sharing personal stories in another language - Opening homes to foreign exchange students (see image above, 29 students from Vielha, Spain begin their stay at WUHSMS)

  • Using their hands to gather data and/or create something new - Meeting new people

  • Understanding that teachers at WUHSMS care about student success

Remember that Monday, September 11 is the first 8 block day of the school year. Please review your schedules ahm.

Parents and students now have access to the Parent Portal of PlusPortals. PlusPortals is a way for parents and students to review specific course information provided by teachers. In PlusPortals, teachers have posted syllabi or class information sheets for their courses. These syllabi provide information about course content and assessment, and are a great way to see the kinds of activities your child will engage in over the course of the school year. Take some time to log in and review these materials

PLEASE NOTE: The PlusPortals accessed online grade book is in the midst of an update, and you will see teachers adding grades starting next week when the update is complete. My apologies for the inconvenience. Remember that you may always contact teachers with questions, concerns and comments.

If you haven't received information about how to log in to PlusPortals, please contact Heather Hansen at 457-1317.
