The Academic Resource Center (ARC) was created with students' needs in mind. It is a space where ALL high school students can come to seek tutorial assistance, test taking strategies, study methods, time management and organizational skills. The ARC provides a space that is respectful, welcoming, safe and purposeful. The ARC is staffed by a certified teacher with faculty support and peer tutors. Mission

The Academic Resource Center mission is to provide a respectful, welcoming, safe and purposeful support system where students are involved in their learning and can achieve academic success.

 

Purpose

The Academic Resource Center is a classroom where all high school students can come to seek tutorial assistance, test taking strategies, study methods, time management and organizational skills.  The ARC includes developing and implementing learning activities for students, homework completion work spaces, effective monitoring reporting, and other academic programs in which students are involved in their learning.

Learning to Learn

  • Find your learning style (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic)
  • Develop a schedule and organize your time
  • Create note cards
  • Organize a workspace with materials
  • Study notes, homework assignments, and readings from class
  • Establish a study group, one-on-one or peer support
  • Chunk assignments into manageable tasks
  • Make a list of assignments with due dates
  • Set goals
  • Enjoy your learning

Test Taking Strategies

  • Establish a positive attitude
  • Eat breakfast before a test
  • Bring the right supplies
  • Prepare using relaxation techniques
  • Follow the directions
  • Review the test and answer the questions you know first
  • Attempt to answer all the questions
  • Organize your responses
  • Use both side of your brain
  • Check your answers if there is available time
