8th grade investigates WWII
The 8th grade American Studies class is currently studying WWII from the point of view of different factions and nationalities, looking at both heroes and villains. WWII was a major transformative event in world history and it helped launch the United States into its role as one of the world’s military superpowers. Here students are organizing images from the National WWII Museum into chronological order.
As a resource to help them identify and explain some of the images, they were able to refer to the 7 interpretive panels of the traveling WWII exhibit from the Gilder Lehrman Institute that is temporarily set up in our library.
New Private Music Lesson Program @ WUHSMS
We are excited to let you know about an exciting new opportunity at WUHSMS, private music lessons! This program offers music instruction from highly skilled professional musicians within the school day. Additionally, through the generous support of a private donor, we are offering these lessons to any interested student, regardless of financial situation. LIBRARY NEWS - Ken Cadow, Author of Gather, visits WUHSMS
On Friday, December 6, Ken Cadow, author of Gather, visited WUHSMS thanks to Vermont Humanities! In addition to being a National Book Award Finalist last year, Gather is the Vermont Reads books for 2024 and hundreds of our students have read it. Ken Cadow's author talk was for most the culminating activity of their study of Ian's life in Vermont with his dog named Gather. The themes in this coming of age story really resonated with our students and they had the opportunity to ask their questions of the author. Nine student panelists sat on stage with the author and they asked questions students in grades 9-12 wrote in their English classes.

Seventh graders learn the Merengue
Seventh grade students in Señora Leibly's Spanish 1B enjoyed learning the basic steps of the merengue.
They also learned that the merengue, a style of music with a fast tempo, is the national dance of the Dominican Republic. After a few practice moves, students enjoyed swinging their hips to a few songs by Juan Luís Guerra and Elvis Crespo, two well known merengueros.
