Arts
The Fine and Performing Arts Department is dedicated to excellence in music, theatre, and visual art.
WUHSMS’s artistic offerings pave the way for students to embark on a journey of creative exploration, intellectual curiosity, skill mastery, and self-expression. Our teachers guide students across the realms of performing arts, visual arts, and music, nurturing their artistic passions every step of the way.
Music
WUHSMS offers a vibrant array of musical opportunities for students to discover their passion and develop their talents.
Our year-long band programs form the heart of instrumental music at both the middle and high school levels. These dynamic ensembles tackle engaging, challenging repertoire spanning multiple genres—from classical to contemporary. As a cornerstone of our school culture, our bands perform regularly at school events, community celebrations, and competitive showcases throughout the region. Students seeking a smaller ensemble experience can join our high school's Jazz and Funk Band, where improvisation and groove take center stage.
For vocalists, the Middle School Concert Choir and High School Woodstock Voices provide comprehensive singing instruction alongside exciting performance opportunities, helping students build confidence, technique, and musicianship.
Looking for more individualized attention? We offer private and group lessons for both voice and instruments, allowing students to accelerate their growth and explore their musical interests in depth.
Performing Arts
YOH Theatre photography by Nancy Nutile-McMenemy
Students create worlds on stage through intensive exploration of text, acting skills, and technical design.
Yoh Theatre is open to all students, and meets after school. Our players produce four plays each year: three full-length plays in October, December and May, and a musical in March. Students are invited to act, be involved with lighting, set building, sound design, costume and props work, gathering skills from professional workshops, as well as from working within the group. Everyone is welcome. High school students receive a ¼ credit per play.
In addition, Theatre Lab is offered as an elective during the school day to middle school students.
Visual Arts
Students are encouraged to try a variety of visual arts to enrich their understanding of the elements, principles, and expressive qualities of the arts.
