Introducing Spirit Club

The Spirit Club is a newly formed club for the 2025/26 school year. Led by a group of passionate students, their club mission is to encourage support of student activities and create spirit.

Pictured are two of the members who, along with the club created a poster for all Winter Sports and Arts Activities.

There is so much to be spirited about in our School.

WE ARE WOODSTOCK!

We are incredibly fortunate to have Noelle Nunes championing our students and school community. Through Noelle's dedication in organizing Spirit Club, she's empowered students to lead, build connections, and foster the spirit that makes our school special. Noelle's commitment to student voice and school pride doesn't go unnoticed—thank you for all you do to make our school a better place!

Therapy Dog Baxter comes to WUHSMS!

Stress in December? Therapy Dog Baxter came the past two weeks to meet with students. His handlers are Dr. Murrell and Ms. Judy Hills. Baxter comes from the Therapy Dogs of Vermont program, and he also sees children at Dartmouth's CHAD program plus a lot more. This opportunity was offered during ARE time. Students did not need to sign up in advance, it was open to all. Baxter had about 50 students, staff, and faculty each week!

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Annie Luke for her thoughtful coordination of this wonderful opportunity and for bringing Baxter the therapy dog into our school community.

Spanish classes explore art and cultural heritage at Boston's Museum of Fine Arts

AP Spanish Language and Culture

AP Spanish Language and Culture students visited the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, where they studied a fresco that once decorated the apse of a small church in Santa Maria de Mur, Lleida, Cataluña, Spain. Dating to 1117, the fresco was removed in 1919 and sold to the MFA to pay for a new roof for the church. It's considered the finest example of Catalán Romanesque apse outside of Barcelona, and its removal prompted Spain to enact laws prohibiting artifacts important to national heritage from leaving the country.

Advanced Topics in Spanish

Advanced Topics in Spanish students are working on a display that we hope to share with the school community soon. They were asked to consider how to use objects or visuals to tell a story with minimal text, how objects and spaces are arranged and organized, and how decisions about what to include are made. Students are seen here examining ancient Greek coins.

Lighting up the Innovation Lab

The High School Innovation Lab students are finishing up their projects for the semester. During quarter one and two, each student designed and built a light. The shapes of the lights are all derived from Hexagons and each student built a digital model prior to fabrication. The patterns on the surface of the lights are derived from photographs that the students took or selected. In remaining classes students are wiring multiple LED lights into their objects. We are having a lot of fun!

Juniors experience lawmaking in class and with State Representative

Juniors in U.S. Government and Politics learned firsthand about the lawmaking process from Representative Charlie Kimbell on December 9. Students asked questions on topics including education, taxes, health care, and phone calls from voters.

Earlier in the year, the same students formed a Senate and House to pass the Balanced Medicare Act of 2025. Senior and former Government student Dominic Palazzo returned as president to sign the bill into law. Other government classes also worked through the legislative process: one class passed a health care law, another bill was vetoed, and a fourth never made it out of Congress.
